Making a case

Hi

I want to make a case for a clarinet and I remember that there was a thread about making a case, and I think it was Terry Horlick that actually had links with pictures of the different stages of the case he/she made. I searched but none of the links in those old threads work.

If anyone has those pictures or good links to those pictures that would be very helpful.

I recently made a similar double case for Bb and Eb clarinets. I used an aluminum laptop case, and styrofoam rather than foam rubber though. It took a bit of time to cut the slots, and is quite a messy job. I keep the vacuum at my side while I am working; otherwise I am covered with foam bits (lots of static electricity!). I also padded the inside of the lid. I purchased knit velour rather than velvet, as it has more give and is easier
to work with when trying to get it to conform to all the odd shaped slots. I glued it down using tacky craft glue....so I cannot lift the fabric and show what the foam looks like as Terry did in his photos!

P.S. My next project is a double case for my two full Boehm Buffets.

I used green florist's foam (the green kind they sell in the craft section of your discount retailer) to make a case for an old Buffet that couldn't fit into standard cases because the barrel comes attached to the upper joint.

The foam was quite easy to work, with nothing more than a kitchen spoon and knife. I lined the foam with a nice velour-looking synthetic and glued it in place. Cushier foam went on the lid. Everything fits nicely into a snallish tupperware container.
