 Discarding old reeds
Author: Ted
Date:   2006-03-07 00:25

I just threw out 200 boxes of old reeds. Probably more as I lost count in my zeal to exfoliate. These were accumulated since the 80's and went till '01 or '02. There would have been more but I moved around a lot in the 70's. Mostly saxophone reeds but at least a third were clarinet. I can't believe I kept this much karmic baggage hanging around. I still have about 50 boxes dating from '02 (not to mention another 50 I just found that are ancient and disgusting).
I think I have a problem. I have stacks of music I'm never going to play, ever. Does anyone else have this collecting problem, and what can be done about it? Thanks - TD

Sounds like you're not married, if so, this could be the answer to your problem.

Many of us teach students who could use a helping hand with supplies and music.

The next time you plan on discarding anything, please contact me off-line...GBK

Yes, I'm sure many of your fellow BBoarder's would gladly take your unwanted supplies. If not a BBoarder, take it to a local school and see if they have any use for it. Also, I'd gladly take some of it off your hands ; )

I would love to take any clarinet solos "off your hands". Contact me offline if this would work.

200 boxes? No.

200 reeds, all played at least once, all kept 'just in case'? Probably.

I think it's a common complaint - you just had it real bad, that's all. Well done on having a purge :-)

I'm building a few large music cabinets to store my stuff. I'll make room for your rejects, if Iacuras hasn't scooped them all up.

Bob, sounds like you could have built the cabinets with all Ted's timber !

So Ted, now it's out.......you're the guy who caused the shortage of decent Van Dorens !

Suggest you get an ATG system, use the last vestiges of the old reeds to practice balancing, then all you'll need for the rest of your days, is a few boxes.

This advice will of course allow you to purchase that helicopter you missed out on when buying the reed forest.

Also, see if you've got an arrangement of "Stranger on the Shore" for GBK.

I hold myself personally responsible for deforesting many acres of primes growth. I could have built a bamboo house with all those reeds ( and an addition with all the ones I still have). BTW - that is a good idea, getting an ATG system for future due diligence. "Stranger on the Shore" was the first song I ever played publically for an Uncle's going away party. I still bask in the glow of those warm applause.
