How is Messager pronounced? Is it pronounced like messanger without the "n" or does it have a fancy french sound or something? If i ever need to say the composers name, since i am playing solo de concours, i don't want to appear STUPID!
thanks

The pronunciation is mess-ah-zhay; since it's French, the "g" sound becomes like the second "g" in "garage", and "er" becomes "ay". (Sorry, it's hard to do phonetics in regular type.) Good idea for checking; it makes a much better impression to show you have. Hope that helps!

also in french the last letter of a word, if it is not a vowel, is not sounded unless it is followed by an " s ". the letter e sounds like " ae ". I played this piece a month ago for a performance and gave an intro speech in french and it went down very well. Its always impressive if you can speak a second language and just use a little to highlight your performance. Here's an example.
Aujord'hui nous sommes contont de jouer dela musique " Solo de Concours " par Andre Messager.
" today we are going to play solo de concours by Andre Messager "
goodluck
