Henkin Bb wooden clarinet

My friend has a Henkin clarinet. It is wood and the case says Artley. Does anyone out there have a clue as to how good it may be. I haven't played it yet. If it is in good shape, what would be a fair offer to pay her for it?

I wouldn't get too excited about the Artley brand, but remember, that's only the case and not the horn itself.

I personally can't vouch for this brand of horn sight unseen. You may end up having to check the horn out on your own. As for market prices, since this is not a common brand here in the US, I wouldn't have a clue of what would be a fair price.

Fetch an inexpensive chromatic tuner (or borrow one if you can) and see if the horn's intonation is good or not. Look at the horn in great detail. Make sure all of the pads and springs are in good shape. Make sure the wood is not cracked and in generally good condition. Play it for overall tone production and playability.

If any one of the general items above don't check out or if you feel that you just aren't comfortable with the horn, then don't buy it.
