The Instrumentation of the Orpheus CO recording of the Eb Serenade is different from the Haas edition I'm reading off of. At times, Haas has the clarinet playing solo where the recording has oboe.
Is there a definitive edition?
Thanks.

There are two versions of K375:
The original is a sextet (pairs of clarinets, horns, bassoons)
Mozart then re-wrote it for wind octet (above plus oboes). He didn't simply attache oboe parts, but rather integrated them seamlessly into the work.
Is it possible that you are comparing sextet and octet versions? The recording may be the octet and the Haas edition may be the sextet.
Just a guess on my part. Otherwise, can't explain except that one of the versions you have is wrong.
Baerenreiter (NMA) and Henle have published Urtext editions of the octet; Baerenreiter also published an Urtext edition of the sextet version.

You're absolutely right, Larry. There it is, plain as day--2 clarinets, 2 horns and 2 bassoons. Any closer and it would have bitten me.
So much for making friends in the oboe world! ;-)
