here's a suggestion.....with the help of your teacher, make transcriptions of solo literature that was written for other instruments and play them on clarinet as true to the composer's wishes as possible....I heard a very young Russian trumpet player this weekend...Sergei Nakaraikov told me (in broken english-russian, we managed to communicate!!!) that this is common practice in russian conservatories. Also, write your own cadenzas. The reason I'm suggesting this was his performance with the Bamberg Chamber Orch...he played a Mozart horn concerto on _flugelhorn_ and sounded superb....All I could think was, what beautiful Mozart, what a superb musician....he said "it help you get into another's boots..."...I've heard tuba transcriptions of Mahlers Song's of a Wayfarer, and beautiful transcriptions of Bach unacc. cello Suites for Bass Clarinet....music is music....might be illuminating to play bach...
