Pads Revisited

Thanks for all the discussion on pads. I've been too busy to get back and contribute more. Anyway, I have some sailing gloves made of a synthetic leather-like material that handles water very well; always stays supple. I wonder why nobody tries pad material like that. I seems to have the same characteristics as kid leather.

To SusieQ: I'm just trying to eliminate things that require the donor to die from my life where possible.

Someone told me by e-Mail a year or so ago that she'd used neoprene to replace a pad. I don't know any more than that about her 'experiment'; how it turned out, what was used to stick it in place etc., but it sounded interesting. The worst that can happen is failure and return to a standard pad.
Have you tried cork pads? Some people like them a lot.
How porous is the glove material you mention?
There must be dozens of materials a person could try on a (spare) horn they don't need to rely on for performing.
