 Sabine Meyer

On NPR's Performance Today this afternoon I heard the Sabine Meyer Wind Ensemble playing an arrangement of the "William Tell Overture" recorded at this year's Schwetzingen Festival in Germany. The clarinet solos were unbelievable. I dearly wish this becomes available on CD. Talk about breathing new life into an old war-horse! If the show repeats in your radio market today, try not to miss it.

Speaking of Sabine, is there a website that lists her discography?

Wondering… As she recorded the Nielsen or Copland?

I have her first recording of Mozart and her duo recordings of Stamitz.

TKS, W H, being blessed "rite hear in River City" with 3 NPR stations, missing this AM's Perf Today, I'll check the two to see if I can find S M's group's perf. Most anything she touches turns to gold {Au}. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Sabine Meyer has an official website. You can google it. It has her discography as well as other ensembles that she plays in. I am a hugh fan, but she doesn't seem to get much notice on this board. Her agent told me that Sabine will be touring the U.S. next year with the Tokyo String Quartet. That will get me on a plane out of Alaska to see her.

TKS to you, W H, I did not miss it. It came on KOSU [OK St U] shortly after 7 PM, so I listened carefully and recorded it on cassette for replay for friends and me. It was excellent, a goodly number of reeds and brass. Bravo, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Some of you New Yorkers may be interested to know that I have an old LP on the Golden Crest Laboratories label of an "All Star Concert Band" doing, among others, the William Tell Overture on which the articulation and clarity of the clarinet section is astounding. The clarinetists that made that recording were: Vincent J Abato, Alfred Gallodoro, Alexander Williams, Bernard Portnoy, Joseph A. Allard, Robert L. Hoffman, Herbert S. Blayman, Charles Russo, Wallace Shapiro and Ernest D Bright. A footnote says the the clarinet section played from the original violin parts and worked out the technical challanges "in just ten minutes". Sabines ensemble may be very good, but the recording made by this bunch of "home town guys" was--and still is--truely unbelieveable.

Al Gallodoro.....what a pity practically none of his recordings are no longer available. And what a lineup on your vinyl,William....astounding. Yes, I'm a Sabine fan also.

I am not aware that she has recorded the Nielsen but she has recorded the Copland. I may have overlooked it but I didn't see it on her website discography. It is on EMI 7243 5 56652 2 5, "Homage to Benny Goodman."

Best regards,
jnk

Al Gallodoro has a website( where have I been!) and you can order his cds direct. I just received and listened to "Infinite Gallodoro"....what a guy, 91 and still gigging.
