Heard the end of the program on the way home from the grocery. Had a true "driveway moment" during the Brahms - couldn't turn it off - exquisite playing!!

Anthony is one of the finest musicians I've ever heard and a truly class act. A fun, normal, low-key guy with oodles of talent and dedication.

My wife and I have a subscription to the Metropolitian Opera on Sat afternoons and needless to say we get to hear Anthony McGill quite often-a real pleasure to say the least. Being an amateur sax and clarinet player I take particular interest in the clarinet playing coming out of the pit. What strikes me in addition to the phenomenal level of playing of McGill, Williamson, and Morales (when he was there) is how different they are from one other. Morales has a very delicate style, the notes seemed to float while Williamson is much more aggressive. Mc Gill seems to be between them in this regard. I must say that my favorite is Williamson, but of course this is just a matter of taste. Also to my ears he sounds like he is using a Selmer, which I also prefer again a matter of taste which is probably rooted in my interest in jazz clarinet. I use a Selmer CT and have never liked Buffets.

The Brahms didn't bother me at all. I actually thought it was the best piece in that performance. The quality of the streaming isn't great so it's hard to pick up on all the color changes in the sound. However, I wasn't as convinved by the Debussy. It sounded like Zhu and McGill had just met a few minutes before the performance and it coudl have used some polishing.

Anyway, he's a great player I was glad to stumble upon this recording.
