Hello everyone!
I made our state's annual 8th grade select band, which I think is very cool I also made it last year as a 7th grader and liked it, which is why I tried out again. I managed to get 5th chair, so I can still play the first part. The pieces we are playing are:
Kentucky-1800 by Clare Grundman
God Bless Amercia by Irving Berlin arr. Frank Cofield
Jekyll and Hyde by Frank Wildhorn arr. Jay Bocook
Pachelbel's Canon for Concert Band by Pachebel arr. Gordon
Gently Flows the Amber Grain by Brian Scott
The pieces are pretty easy this year, much much easier than last year. Comments on the pieces?
I'm so excited! Even though it's only a week of rehersals, it's still fun.

Congrats!!!:o) The pieces you are playing are a lot of fun "gently flows" is a wonderful piece, one of my favorites(plus it has my name in it) and Jekl and Hyde is just amazing, breath taking music. I would strongly recomend buyig the CD, it is a great musical and the music alone is enough to move you to tears! And Don't forget to practice! Some people stop practicing after the audition, and let me tell you... there is no better way to be the glaring point of the entire band! Good luck, you are going to have a blast!

Congradulations,
Its really great you're jazzed up. Just wondering which state you reside? In my state, its the CMEA (MENC) that runs the show. How is it where you are? I have several students that perform regularly. While I am only familiar with one of the pieces you are learning, I can tell you that the music itself is not as important as the experience, at this point. Beyond the music and who sits in what chair, I can only advise you to work, practice, and, above all, enjoy what you are doing. The work is the fun. Enjoy. -ss-
