Hello,
David Hite was American. I don't know his family lineage. You do know he died about a year ago, right?

When I was in school the best piece of advice I had from a wonderful clarinet teacher was his reccommendation of David Hite's series "melodious & progressive studies" and "artistic studies" from southern music company, saying they would provide a lifetime of enjoyment and study. More than 15 years later, these books are still my main source of practice material, and I haven't yet begun to seriously investigate the studies in demanding key signatures! The artistic series includes all the Rose etudes and studies and much more, with the earlier volumes filled with mainly violin-derived studies leading up to Rose. Highly reccommended!

David was a card - great guy.
Quite ironic that just 3 months before his passing he was asking me if the Gigliotti line of Mouthpieces would continue now that Tony had passed away. He and Jean his wife were still practicing the Clarinet every day.
