Need help finding clarinet repair/service shop in NC
Author: IronMaiden27

Hi All! I had such success with my first posting that I thought I'd try it again!

I am now in need of a good, reliable, trustworthy, perhaps even "authorized" clarinet repair and/or service shop in the Raleigh or Charlotte area of North Carolina for my buffet crampon b-flat clarinet. It has sat in its case for almost fifteen years - yikes!! But it is STILL in excellent condition. The pads will most likely all need to be replaced and the keys have dulled somewhat. But honestly, for the most part, it looks and feels just as it did way back then.

Any info positive AND negative is greatly appreciated!!

Hello,

I just googled Raleigh to Boone, NC and it looks like about a 3 hour drive. Definitely do that and go to Muncy Winds to have Phil Muncy fix it up. Tell him I sent you! I'd call before to make sure he's there. Good luck.

Your best bet would be to contact the nearest university's music department and ask them who their students use. The phone book or the Internet is pretty much a crap shoot. I depended on my fellow university musicians and who they had good luck with.

I'm fortunate in that there are a few good reliable repair shops in my area (Milwaukee/Chicago)! I'm playing again after a (long) time away from the clarinet and just bought an old E11 Buffet. Wish I had an R13 - ya lucky duck!

Good luck ~ enjoy playing!

I live right down the road from Edward's Music Repair. Their shop is gigantic and the prices aren't bad. The work is good; they do all my repair work. Of course, there is always Muncy Winds and JL Smith? in Charlotte.

Edit:

I meant to say I live in Hope Mills.

Thank you all so much for the information! I believe a trip to the mountains (Boone) is in order!

Try Marsh Woodwinds in Raleigh. I think its on Person St. They are VERY good and reasonably priced. Also, just a neat place to visit...lots of old instruments.

Second on Rodney at Marsh woodwinds.

Going up the mountain, this time of year, is dicey.
(It's further than you think.)

Call the NC Sympnony office and ask for the contact info on their clarinet section. Ask them who they use in the area, that way you'll get a professionals opinion in the area if you don't want to travel 3 hours at this time of the year. Of course they may say Muncy. ESP

Thanks so much for all the ideas - I really appreciate them! I do plan to check around in this area before I go 4-wheel driving it - ha! Thanks again and I'll let you know how it all turns out!
