I just returned from Clarfest 2005, and I want to congratulate those who ran it. It was a wonderful festival! (I only wish I could have stayed for the whole thing.)

I lived in Tama shi Tokyo for three years in an apartment building only a few hundred yards from the concert hall where I assume some of the Clarfest events took place. Being a clarinetophile and a Japanophile I can tell you that hearing about this event and where it took place sent a strong pang of nostalgia through me.

i've been getting daily emails all week from a friend playing there- it sounds like it has been a blast, the only problem being that Tokyo is such an amazing place to explore that there were hard decisions to make re how much time to spend at Clarinetfest vrs how much time to spend being a tourist.
My original plan to visit Clarinetfest 2005 (which got canned due to gigs, and i went to OU Symposium instead) involved an extra week looking around, and finding a place to surf of course.

I spent several days in Tokyo while working at their international auto show. I was in the company of a fellow who's marriage allows 7-only guitars. Since he is allowed to add one then subtract to get back to the agreed upon equilibrium instrument count, he relished the chance to shop for a boisterous addition to his quiver.
So, we went to music instrument shops. WOW. There were many great-sounding clarinetists trying out instruments. Intimidating competences.
And, very, very high prices for clarinets. Even home-brew Yamahas cost thousands.
Neat that there is so much serious involvement with "western" instruments in Japan!

Hi to every i just come back today i live in fukuoka japan .
2005 clarinet fest is amazing and every things well done and very succsesful.
I enjoyed too much specially when i heard different clarinet players in the world and i bought a lot of accessories like backun products and others
(wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i spend a lot of money in this clarinet fest )
Also one thing i was happy is the master class of Neidich, Arrignon and wenzel fuch its great i learn a lot and always too many people in the room .
Maybe many people enjoy it not only me and now now maybe i need to rest im tired.
Bob .. in Japan instrument is very expensive compare to U.S but
one thing i can say you have full warranty and satisfaction. I bought
my instrument here and its great i dont have any problem until now.
And maybe japanese distributor is good in buisness thats why they can sell like that price.
Sayonara minasama.
