Under the heading "dunno" --
A retired band director (4th generation bandmaster I believe) has got a garage full of old instruments from generations of bands and orchestras. As he's going through his stuff, he's turning up some interesting specimens, including some clarinets which he has been bringing to me. I'm stumped on this one, though. It is a Rene Guenot, or at least so says the bell, Boehm but with covered tone holes over the whole instrument (a la bass clar). No serial number to be found on it, and no other identifying marks on the body of the instrument.
It is completely unplayable at present, so I couldn't even begin to tell you if it plays decently or like a crappy student instrument.
Anyone heard of this make in clarinets? I've only seen Guenot saxophones.

Per your description, is this cl a "plateau model" ? While other makers may have made such, the only one I know of was made by Leblanc, mine is a "student model" Normandy plastic, dating back to ??1950-70's. Playable but not very good. And of course the bell may be a later addition??, a "good French name?" perhaps for "stencil" insts. HELP, please, D S, J B, MC/GBK et al ! Don
