I was just curious as to whether anyone here has ever seen that commercial for Amercian Express (credit card)...about small businesses? The reason I'd like to know is because the music sounds good and has a fun sounding clarinet part and I was wondering if anyone knew what piece it is that is on that commercial?

Ahh yes. I've been wanting to mention my observation of TV commercials and the clarinet. Watch and listen...you'll be amazed at how much clarinet there is. I guess the clarinet is not as unpopular as we have been led to believe.
By the way. This weekend, I took a couple of friends to a tribute concert for Red Nichols. All of the band did well, but my friends especially noticed how well the clarinet sounded in that venue. I agreed, of course. They said it was their favorite instrument of the night. So what gives. Why do people think I'm crazy when I tell them what I play?

"Why do people think I'm crazy when I tell them what I play?" Perhaps you should try telling them you play sax, or trumpet or whatever, and see whether the reaction you get is any different.
Reminds me of a colleague of mine years ago. He got sick of the negative reaction he received whenever he admitted that he worked with computers. So his strategy was to say "I'm an accountant .............. No, no, just joking, really I work with computers." He claimed that people would react, "Thank goodness you're not an accountant, computers sounds really interesting."

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

Does anyone remember the Pine-Sol trio for clarinet, flute and oboe? I started to transcribe it when I was a teenager and lost my work. Would love to get my hands on the score.

Lindsie, If I'm not mistaken, it's the second movement from Mendelssohn's
Third "Scottish" Symphony. I hope this helps!

I've done many clarinet "jingles" over the past 25 years.
A few that come to mind are:
Chase Bank (I tried to sound like Benny...no, not Jack Benny!)
Johnson & Johnson (Jazzy clarinet with strings)
Sbarro Pizza (Barber of Seville in the wrong key)
Merregnon 2 (game video promo)
Fiddler on the Roof (Klezmer clarinet spot for the show promo)
WICKED (show promo)
and, many years ago:
American Airlines ("Up, Up, and Away..." it ran for years)
The producers love live clarinet for their commercials! It has been fun.

Yeah, I asked that a couple months ago. I even made a midi. It's the Mendelssohn Scottish.
