Checking the Dell web page shows no built in mic on the Jukebox.
After some difficulty, I found the users guide, and it indicates
you can record, but only by buying an "optional inline FM Tuner".
The inline tuner lets you record "FM radio music" or "voice". I suppose
the "voice" mode would allow recording of live music, but it doesn't
inspire a lot of confidence in the result.

Anyway, has Dell recently "improved" their product recently to eliminate
the builtin recording capability and be more like IPOD??

Personally, I prefer the Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra, a much better deal than either the Apple or Dell equivalents. It has no recording option, but otherwise has all the same features, plus some advanced EAX Audio options, for significantly less. But, to each his own.

Yes, how times have changed since then...

Dell now only has 20 and 5 GB Jukeboxes now. I have not met anyone with one of the newer models. And of course, Dell still sells the older models, but they are refurbished. I'm 100% the older models all have voice recording features. But the new, smaller, sleeker, sexier (hah) Dell Jukebox, I have no clue about. iPod's are weird to work with. I have heard only good things about Creative's mp3 players.

I bought a Creative MuVo Slim after a poster praised it....and I'm happy. It does have a built-in mike and Fm play and record capability....as well as the MP3/WMA stuff.
