I am heading down to Mardi Gras this year as I will be in one of the parades, and I am wondering which music stores I should go to for good literature. I am looking for solo as well as choir and bass cl literature. I will only be there for a few days, and want to try and get to a couple while down there. Thanks!

Which Mardi Gras are you going to? If you mean the one in New Orleans, then you've already missed the best music store in town. Werlein's (aka Philip Werlein and Sons) was the best place to get sheet music - it's history went back to the mid 1800's and it also was once one of the biggest music publishing houses in the U.S. with "Dixie" as one of its most noted titles. However, the most recent generation of the family had no more interest in running the business, especially with the general decline in the public's interest in learning to play an instrument. So they shut down and sold off everything. There's one small store still operated by a family member - Werlein Pianos, but I doubt that they have what you're looking for. Probably the nexy best thing in New Orleans is Zeagler's Music, located in a strip mall on Severn Ave. at West Esplanade (which is actually in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans). You can find it on one of the map generating websites, and it's about a 15 miute drive from Downtown New Orleans.
If anyone else here in New Orleans knows anywhere else, speak up - I'd like to know too!

I say don't worry about buying music, but enjoy the atmosphere. That is a WORLD famous party. So party it up!
