Black Master Reeds on French Mouthpiece?
Author: Jim Jorge

Has anybody tried the Vandoren Black Master Reeds on a French/American mouthpiece? According to one catalog, while White Masters will not fit on French mouthpieces because of their size, Black Masters are cut wider and have been used successfully on French and American mouthpieces, so the catalog claims. I was wondering if anybody had experimented with that, and what the general outcome was. Thanks.

I use them on my Morgan and Gigliotti mouthpieces. I love the way they help me get that reedy German sound. They are a bit shorter, but fit fine otherwise.

You can read many letters about Black Masters in Klarinet Archive, which you can find at the bottom of this BBS.Just input black master in the box.
An example is here <A HREF=http://www.sneezy.org/Databases/Logs/1996/04/000255.txt>Shakleton on Black Master</A>
