 Tender Land-Opera
Author: Francesca

Hey all!

Next semester my college is performing Copeland's "Tender Land." The part isn't technically difficult, but it does get wicked high. We're talking C7, two octaves above the treble clef staff. I'm looking for any comments about the work. I didn't find much when I did a search. General suggestions about playing in an opera setting would be quite helpful as well. Thanks!

An absolutely wonderful work which, I believe, has had only one complete recording. This is Copland at his best, unfortunately not performed as much as his "barnyard" ballets.

The recording made by Copland and the BSO in the sixties of music from the opera remains one of my favorites, especially the final scene known as "The Promise of Living".

The music is nice, but I always have trouble listening to an English libretto.

Now that is very exciting news ... unlike most of the recent dross dropping into this illustrious BB.

Copland is NOT easy ... here's what will happen on stage in your production:

GBK ... sorry, I can never remember the bells and whistles one needs to push to get a link to come up ... when I turned 40, my hair started falling out and my short term memory was shot to pieces ...

Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

A few years back, the crew over at the University of Minnesota here did a version of it _on a farm_! They also toured around the state with it and brought it to lots of small farming communities who, I was told, greatly appreciated it!
