Does anyone have suggestions about starting a slide on the a below the break, as in the Copeland?

If you're talking about the very end, I've always heard the slide start in the second register, on about 3rd space D.

"on about 3rd space D"--Huh??? Or do you mean tenor clef??

In any case, I usually just "slop" over the break and try to start the gliss from B4, much the same as for the RnB gliss, ala jazz feel. (For you tenor clefers, that's second space B :>)

Right. For second space to be G, you'd have to be in mezzo-soprano clef.

start the slide on the D in the middle clarion register. It helps me to remember that air is the most important and voicing is the next. Keep your tongue high as if you are voicing the end note (altissimo D) when you start, and use your lips to loosen only if needed. most of the work, once everything is voiced well, is done by the smooth sliding of your fingers.

some may disagree. I'd be interested to hear what others say about glissando technique.
