Went to see this one yesterday afternoon, don't know if there are any rhythm and blues lovers in the clarinet world besides me, but I thought it was just so great. Great sax work by his back-up band.

Before it was replaced in 1993 Ray's tour bus was affectionately known as the "death star" as the bus was black and named after Darth Vader's Ship in Star Wars.

In an interview a few months before his death, Ray Charles said about the film: "I can see that Taylor's done his homework. He's got my life down pretty good. I would like for the people to understand the trials and tribulations that I've gone through from when I was a little kid up until I really got into my career and all the different things that happened to me over the years.
I mean, I've had some wonderful things to happen to me, but yet I've had some pretty dramatic things to happen to me, too. I would like for people to know that you can recover from a lot of adversity that you might have in your life if you keep pressing on-if you still feel you know where you want to go. In other words, you don't give up just because you get knocked down a few times."

What they didn't show was a true story of when Ray was blind as a child while playing with some local kids, they had Ray run along a line (as in a clothes line) that was attached to a Pole and they let Ray run right into the Pole.
Kids can be pretty mean!

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that Ray's first instrument was the clarinet. Piano and alto sax came later.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, but I think I'm going to wait for it to come out on video.
My mom and sister saw it and said it was an o.k movie...but they aren't really into music at all, so I won't trust their opinions on a movie about a musician.
EDIT: umm.. this must be some sort of sign lol, right behind me sponge bob square pants is playing and they're talking about a clarinet:o

I'm still thinking about the movie, and still thinking about his live concert at the San Francisco Cow Palace in the 60's. Yeah I was there, right up front and personal. He played What'd I Say as his last number and it lasted for about 25 to 30 minutes. The crowd went completely batty. I will Never Ever forget that!!
