I looked on amazon and didn't really find any recording of the Schumann Fairy Tales Trio for clarinet viola and piano. Does anyone know where I could buy one? Preferable a clarinetist with a bit more conservative style like larry combs or karl leister?.
On a random note, when I sight read this trio today, for some reason the clarinet part was missing so I had to transpose the violin part. Fun exercise in sight reading i must say. Hopefully someday I'll be able to play double stops

who needs Paris Hilton when you've got Sabine Meyer? she has recorded it
just so the women don't feel left out
there is also Alesandro Carbonare! (yes, on Agora)
Sabine is a bit boringish but tasteful- certainly good playing
the recording balance etc is lacking in any "intimate quality"
the Carbonare is very good- Pianist a little ordinary maybe
donald
i also have an old LP of J Lancelot that is very edifying to study/listen to

There's a brilliant recording of it on the ECM label with Kim Kashkashian and Eddie Brunner. It's played alongside the Kurtag trio and some other pieces and is a REAL treat, especially the viola playing!
Best,
Michael

Nice try GBK...But seriously....ahem....I've never been a big Schumann fan but I did hear something the other day that I really liked and it was the original version of his Sym.4 in Dmin op 120....but I didn't write down the orchestra.....and I'm pretty sure it wasn't on Amazon

Lennie and the NYPO recorded the original Schumann 4 in the 60s, it's the only recording I know of.

OK -here's another cracker
RCA 09026-63504-2
That's Michael Collins (cl) Steven Isserlis (cello for viola) and Stephen Hough.
This Cd also covers the Brahms and Fruhling Trios.
The Schumann works well with 'cello as the alternative (as are several of the Max Bruch "Acht Stucke")
