I always loved the tone of the B40. I spent 3 years trying to make it work. Its just too resistant. Everyone around me seems to be playing effortlessly while I'm sitting there really breaking a sweat. I just called Dave at junkdude.com and ordered a MORGAN RM15. My alto sax morgan is the best mouthpiece i have ever played and I own a clar RM 28 which sounds great but is big enough to use as a shovel. I'm really excited about playing the RM 15. its the same opening as my B40. Anyway just thought I'd share...

I have found the B40 to sometimes be problematic as to resistance but have found the solutions to this seeming resistance to quite simple...
for example...
The instrument's pads have to be set properly and working well.
Humidity affects the reeds greatly and with the B40 you may find yourself playing down a half a size easily....
Control on the B40 is related to having a bit of practice under your belt...if you aren't practicing I find on the B40 it shows a good deal in embouchure fatigue...
The ligature on the B40 I prefer is my old Bonade...the reeds play much better on a metal lig with this piece than with the fabric set up I use on the Hite pieces I have...'
Vandoren reeds work far better on the B40 but I have found the Mitchell Luries work well with it as well..don't simply get rid of your B40...you may find a mechanical problem in the instrument that is simply making it resistant...
for example...
On My A clarinet(Selmer Recital) I have lately had trouble with the B40 mouthpeice...upon inspection the A key in the upper joint for the throat A was too weakly set...once I adjusted it Wow!!! The instrument played beatifully with the B40!!!
So, keep an open mind and a screwdriver near the case!
