I am about to get a new clarinet mouthpiece, B flat. have an old but refurbished Boosey and Hawkes student horn. I want a mouthpiece to help me get a brighter less stuffy sound to play jazz and swing. normally play alto sax so maybe that can shed some light. my teacher (sax teacher) advised me to get a Hite Artist D....any other input...also any advice about reeds to aim me towards the sound i want.
feel free to e-mail me directly as i am about to bite the bullet and would like suggestions/observations asap.
thanks, jaf

Jaf,
You might want to write to Dave Hite & ask him - he's a Sneezy Sponsor (along with quite a few other mouthpiece makers). Check in the Equipment/Mouthpiece section here on Sneezy to see his and others' contact info.

dave hite is one of the masters for clarinet mp's for this country as is E. Matson. please be sure that the mp which you try matches the bore that the B&H clarinet has. They were big bored clarinets. you might go to your local music store and see if they have a junk box of mp's and maybe a B&H mp just might be buried. I know where some are that can be fixed up for you with a facing and tip opening to give you sort of the same feel as when you double on the sax. E-mail me if you like at jerry hall22@aol.com.
