I agree. A friend of mine recently saw/heard him play live in New York, and brought me back a CD. Mr. D'Rivera is an incredible player, and I'm told he has an excellent sense of humor to boot. He's also a fantastic Sax player. One quote of his that the aforementioned friend passed on to me was something along the lines of...
"I only speak 50 or so words of English... *pause* and half of them are dirty."

His wonderful playing and sense of humor were on display at ClarinetFest 2004. I marvel at how he plays with so much ease.

I meant to include a wonderful photo of Paquito from our NY Pops concert.
His bright, colorful shirt, and glowing personality made the concert for all of us. His playing on his Rossi clarinet, and "custom" Yamaha black Alto, was the highlight of the evening at Bryant Park.
At the rehearsal that afternoon, I asked Paquito if he'd like to play Bolero with the Pops? To my surprise, he said yes. So, after his amazing Rhapsody in Blue clarinet rip, some screaming, great alto solos, and a fine jazz set with his group, he sat down in the clarinet section, and played one of the most beautiful clarinet solos I've ever heard in Bolero!
He is amazing!...and a great guy!
If you get the opportunity to hear him live, do so. Otherwise, get a hold of some of his CDs, and you'll love this truly unique virtuoso!

Besides Bob's quote of Paquito above, here are his other one-liners from ClarinetFest:
(after tuning with pianist) "I don't why I do that--Rossi clarinets always play in tune!"
(after painstakingly arranging his music on a couple of stands) "I don't look at the music anyway."
I agree that his playing is just amazing! I definitely need to get some of his CDs!!!
Here is his website if anyone's interested:
