 new way to stop cracking?

I read an article a few days ago about JVC's new wooden speaker cone. To keep it from cracking, it is treated by soaking it in sake before being installed in the speaker.
It would be interesting to find out what chemistry is at work here. Perhaps Chateau Neuf du Pape would work better on French clarinets?

My boyfriend and I polished off 2 bottles of Chateauneuf du Pape with dinner last Saturday,if it makes clarinets feel as good as it made us feel then I think we could be on to something :D
