I bought me a "pig in a poke" melange [proper word?] on EBAY, a "parts" assortment, best of which is an UJ of a good-looking Silver Throat Pruefer [anyone have a LJ for me??]. The mp I had hopes for is a KELL [famous name] MAXITONE plastic {M}, with beak character of an alto sax mp and with a ?permanent? thin plastic cushion, nearly 15.0 mm tenon dia. Haven't tried it yet! Any comments, partic. from our Brits?? ? A stock? Just "prospecting", didn't find Au, or even Ag. Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

Don -
Reginald Kell let his name be put on mouthpieces in the late 1950s. I remember playing two models -- the plastic one was not so hot, and the rubber one was OK but not great. According to a bio in The Clarinet published after his death, he played on "false Martel" clarinets with a large, "English" bore. Obviously, any mouthpiece that would work on those instruments would be dreadfully out of tune on a French bore instrument, so the Kell mouthpieces marketed in the US would have to be pretty drastically changed.
Also, Kell played double lip, so I doubt that he would have used a cushion on top of his mouthpiece.
Hope you found at least some Fe, and no Pb.
Best regards.
