I'm about to get my buffet r-13 overhauled and i would like to know what would be the best thing to do for it. my teacher tells me that cork/leather pads are really good, but to also check out other options. any help would be great.
Thankyou

Bigger picture, find a master technician a la Brannen, Chadash, Yan, Harris, etc. who has done overhaul work for a clarinetist you respect and get his guidance. Every one of them has his own brew of gadgets, gizmos and geegaws for optimizing the instrument. You want to concern yourself with what the finished product will be like (insert sausage analogy here).

In what neck o' the woods are ye, C'258? Wherever you are, the best situation (in my opinion) is to work with a local tech - if at all possible.
The Golssary of Terms and Definitions varies widely from region to region and often within the same town. So, *whoever* you talk to, make sure you both agree on what an "Overhaul" IS. Then you can check qualifications, prices, reputation, etc., before you decide anything. Diagnosing and estimating is a free service of most reputable shops. All the Independent Techs I know are happy to discuss your needs and wishes as well.
