Those of you in the UK who remember the old days of the English Saxophone Quartet and the many events we partook in for the Clarinet & Saxophone Society of Great Britain and for Buffet Crampon (later Boosey & Hawkes) will be sad to hear of the recent death of Raymond Scott who played baritone throughout the career of the quartet.
Ray was a close friend and valued colleague and will be sadly missed. His splendid playing and superb musicianship was the basis of the group as well as his humour and his ability to stop the rest of us quarrelling too much.
He had not been playing professionally for the last few years due to illness and was living in his beloved home in Orkney. He died in hospital in Aberdeen.
