I have a Kingston B flat clarinet. It will not play anything involving the lower barrel. That pretty much leaves out anything between B natural and F. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Help and Thank You.

Check to make sure there isn't a leak with the pads in the lower joint. Take the joint and cover all the holes inclucing the bottom opening and then blow air thru the top of the joint. Listen for any air leaking out of any spaces. Have someone run their fingers along the horn to feel for leaking air too. That should help you find the problem. If there isn't a leak, check each of the keys to see if they are bent or out of place.

Mary-
The evidence points to the pad that closes when you play a low B or Bb. The pad may be missing or damaged, but it also may be held open by the bridge mechanism that couples to the top piece. This would most likely be due to something being bent. If that is the case, DO NOT try to bend it yourself. You could make things much worse. Have an experienced repair technician look at it.

Sounds to me like a leak near the top of the lower joint. Check the pads for leaks as suggested above. Or the tennon cork might be leaking, which would do the same thing. Don't forget the C#/G# key, which is normally closed by a spring, which might be weak or missing.
