I've been accepted to the North Carolina School of the Arts as a high school Junior for next year. I'm also being offered a substantial scholarship to go there. So, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about who will be the clarinet professor there. It used to be Daniel McKelway...but he's leaving. Also, does anyone go there or know someone who does? Is it worth it? Thanks!

I graduated from HS at NCSA for clarinet about 4 years ago. It will depend on what you are hoping to get out of being there, as to whether it will be 'worth it'. If you are looking for preparation to possibly study music in college, it is possibly worth considering, but based on where you are living now (and are studying with), I would weigh that against whoever becomes the clarinet instructor.
I think it is very unlikely that they will get a teacher as good as Dan McKelway, but perhaps who ever gets the job will be someone you would enjoy working with?
So...I was not impressed with the school overall, but if you have a great teacher there, and the school is offering you a good scholarship, go for it!
