I am attempting to date an old Evette and Schaeffer clarinet, and I'm not having much luck. Maybe someone can help me out.
It looks pretty old to me; the thumb rest looks just like the one on my 1911 Buffet, with one screw above and one below. The throat A# key shares a post with the A key.
The serial number is not preceded by a letter, just the number 1314, which is etched by hand, not stamped, and is only on the upper joint.
The logo is the usual "Evette & Shaeffer Paris France" inside the oval, with "Modele Buffet-Crampon" below it. I have a D series Evette, and an K series Evette Schaeffer Master Model, but this looks much older than either of them.
Anybody know approximately when this thing was made?
Thanks
Sue

This clarinet was made 1885-1920. I would expect 'LP' or 'HP' marking on the clarinet this old. I don't think the serial number is valid.

hmmm.
No LP or HP markings. I was suspicious of the serial number though.
thanks
