 Mouthpiece problems

I need some advice. I have a Dan Johnston mouthpiece that I picked up from my old teacher. It was great for about two years, but I realized I couldn't play on anything else. Eventually I switched over to a vandoren stock b45 which works great for me now! I really never play on the Johnston anymore so I want to sell it off. The odd thing about this mouthpiece is I remember my teacher telling me that it had an X facing, and that someone tried to sue Johnston after making it because it was so simular to a diff brand of mouthpiece. So apparently this is the only Johnston mouthpiece with this facing or something like that. So I really don't know how much I should sell this thing for, or if I should keep it around if it's going to be worth a good amount of money! Help me asses this thing!

If you can provide specific questions, I'll be glad to offer an appraisal.

Please send me your return address, on the back of a fiddy-dolla beel.

Otherwise -
eBay is a wonderful resource for this kind of thing.

That is an interesting story...I am not sure but I sometimes would think it wise not to believe anything clarinet players say in regards to mouthpieces.

My own experience is most people can't afford to sue unless they have amounts of money to burn...plus there are only a few companies out there which are able to...

As to the Johnstons...I tend to find these pieces are very bright and also require alot of work from the player. Resistant mouthpieces aren't my bag thought...these may work for some but I found most of Johnston's stuff beautifully made but really hard to play....and I am a strong person and use 4 reeds...

Johnston is also famous for hisasymetrical facings...this is a type of tip designed where the opening is deliberatly skewed in such a way that it produces a somewhat different ring on the sound. Normally these facings are also somewhat more resistant as well.

Not sure which facing could possiblly be misconstrued as a copy...at the moment just about everything with clarinet pieces has been conceived of and done....
