For those with an interest in bass clarinet

I have just been listening to a recent CD of mine entitled ''Last Orders'' it is music from a recent British film, directed by Fred Schepsi [an Australian] and starring, amongst others, Bob Hoskins and Michael Caine.

Many of our UK and Australian colleagues will probably be aware of the very thoughtful musical soundtrack and will also appreciate the contribution by one Phil Todd on bass clarinet. I don't know where Phil hails from, presumably the UK, as the film was made there, but the original score is written by a talented musician, Paul Grabowsky, also an Australian.

For our colleagues on the other side of the Pacific/Atlantic [read as appropriate] and who are probably starved of most cinema which is not of USA origin, this music is worth seeking out and listening to. The bass clarinet is heard on about half of the tracks and is a featured instrument, weaving in and out of the theme variations on various pieces.

In very small print on the back of the case I have spotted the following:

American Splendor has a few nice bass clarinet bits though they are very much in the background.

Oh, you know what... thanks for reminding me. I saw a preview for that movie! And I heard the bass clarinet in the music and thought it was the coolest thing ever! Yeah, I want to buy the CD. :)

You may listen to samples of the music, with bass clarinet featured, by going to Amazon.com and searching for "Last Orders" in popular music.

Yes I checked out Amazon thanks. You get only a small soundbite though. It's not enough to do justice unfortunately - it would be better to check out your library or record store.
