 Buffet A clarinet
Author: Dennis

I think I have asked this question before but I am confused. I am interested in purchasing a Buffet A clarinet. The serial number is in around 524000. I can't tell what year this is because the chart on this web site only goes to 1996. Could someone give me an idea what year this would be. Also, does buffet make a lower priced and quality A clarinet than the R-13, I know they make higher end, such as the prestige. What would the price new on something like this be. Thank you

Doing a bit of interpolation, we can assume it was probably made this year.

This year Buffet has been making clarinets with serial # as high as about 468000. Based on the rate that they make clarinets, you can expect the one you say you have to be made about 2003; i.e. You must be reading the serial number wrong. Email me directly if you like & I will give you an exact date. They make an E11 A, but the only reason to choose it would be the lower cost, not quality!

Curiously, this clarinet sounds an awful lot like a Buffet E-11 that has been on the ebay auction block recently. Dja vu ?

The Buffet E-11 A clarinets play quite well! :-) try a few when (if) you get to try some R13s too.. I tried one and it played just as well and even better than some of the R13s I tried.. and for the cost.. I got it! ;-) I'm still happy!
