Hello Everyone,
I have some questions about the playing styles of various artists.
First of all, I've heard that Ricardo Morales is a tone genius. I'm wondering, is his tone French, German, American, or his own?
And also, are there any good recordings of Mr. Morales playing with or without the Met Opera Orchestra? I search and of course, find nothing(I'm very bad at finding stuff out about the MOO)
How old IS David Shifrin? Has he been around as long as say Stoltzman, or even longer? My friend thinks he's in his 70s, which puts him almost in the same generation with Stanley Hasty and Gigliotti, a little past say Larry Coombs.
Has anyone heard of Joshua Osbourne, I think my friend told me that he played for the Met a while. Where did he end up?
Stanley, Sydney, Russ, Michelle, David, Deborah, Chuck, Jon, Ricardo, Marc, Sabine, Elsa, Laura, John, Larry, Robert, Paul---They all know Copland.

Lets see...where to begin. I am guessing that Shifrin is in his mid 50s. As a young man(21-23) he became the principal clarinetist of the Cleveland Orchestra after Marcellus left. He is certainly not in his mid 70s. Sean Osborn was a member of the Met. I believe today he is primarily a composer and giving lessons/masterclasses. Ricardo Morales does have a remarkable sound. I too had a difficult time finding a recording of him. If you are near Bloomington, Indiana, I know for a fact the music library has a recording or two of him doing a recital. I do not remember exactly, but I know for a fact he was performing a Brahms and the Lovreglio La Traviata. These were guest recitals he did. To me, it is very difficult to say that he has a certain nationalities tone, but I would not consider it Germanic. So I guess I would say he has his own sound, which is very smooth. While I do think he has a good orchestral sound, I always preferred hearing Rabbai at the Met.

A quick search yielded only one recording, a couple works by Archduke Rudolph (the "Archduke" friend of Beethoven). http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/Drilldown?&name_id=38108&name_role=2

If you search here on "Morales weber" you'll probably get quite a few hits of him playing the Weber Concertos. That's what I remember always being his claim to fame on this BBoard as far as recordings go (anytime the Weber concertos come up, someone will recommend his recordings). So judging by that I figure they HAVE to be out there floating around somewhere . . .

You are thinking of the Manasse recordings of the Weber concerti and chamber music. I don't believe that Morales has ever (commercially) recorded any of the Weber pieces...GBK
