I have two of his Bb mpcs like them both and sold my V-45. . I was lucky enough to be able to visit his shop and pick out one of them after trying several. He made a few adjustment and I was set. The second I bought later since I wanted to try a mpc with that was cut close and since my embrchure was getting better.

I play one of Walters' bass clarinet mpcs (CXBS) and it responds (articulates) crisply in all registers and makes the "problem" clarion notes speak with relative ease. For my bass clarinetting, it has made a "sows ear into a silk purse". My previous bass mpc was a VanDoren B45, but it is now collecting dust in my "extra stuff" closet.

One thing I expecially like about Walters' bass clarinet mpc is that it is less reed "sensitive" than my old VD45. More reeds seem playable, and the "good" ones play even better. And mine also works well with a Legere #3.0 using a VD Optimum lig.

I have one of his bass mouthpieces and I have a colleague who uses his Bb mouthpiece. Very positive feedback for both. He is a fine craftsman, makes great stuff and is interested in making his customers happy. He is very easy to work with.

I have three of his Bb mouthpieces, one Eb mouthpiece and a bass. They are my main mouthpieces for every kind of playing. I have tried a lot of different mouthpieces, from a goodly number of well respected makers, and his are the best for me.

His barrels helped me out with the large twelfths on my 10Gs. The clarinets now play pretty much in tune.

Walter, i'm still waiting on the sax mouthpieces we discussed....

Walter made a wood barrel for one of my Silva Bets. It looks funny as all get out but plays better than the original adjustible barrel.

I have two Grabner mouthpieces, an Eb and Bb. In both cases, Walter matched one of his mouthpieces to the clarinet as he overhauled it. This allowed him to fine tune it for the exact clarinet it would be played on. In addition, he made a Cocobolo barrel for my Bb to improve the intonation and throat tones. I really like the way his mouthpieces play, especially the Bb when combined with his own barrel. My Bb mouthpiece is a CXZ_AW_PERS. It has a very mellow and dark sound. Articulation is very clean and crisp. When combined with his barrel, the tone of my 1974 R13 takes on a new clarity and focus, yet without getting too bright. It took several days of playing on this combination for me to adjust and realize that I liked it better than what I had before. Improving intonation depends on both using a good mouthpiece as well as barrel. Picking a good mouthpiece should be as much about intonation as it is about sound and ease of play. The same goes for a barrel. Walter being a fine clarinetist also helps a lot when it comes to testing out what he just made. He sweats the details and doesn't ship it until he feels it is right.
