Hello all,
I have a Vito 7214.
I'd need to change the thumbrest to one that's adjustable and has a loop for a neck strap hook.
Where can I buy one?

Congratulations, it's a fine instrument. Since new holes might be necessary for an adj. t.r. you probably should see your local music store or technician.

Well,
I am in Norway. The one music store in this little town can't help, so I have to order it from the States or England.
Any suggestions?

Deb,
Do you really need to change the thumb rest. Why not invert the current one you have, that is just install it up side down and see how you go. This way there is no need to drill holes. I did this with mine and I must say it does the job, frees up the tention in the fingers.

Deb: You can't assume that any adjustable thumb rest you would purchase will have the same hole spacing as the one you have now....and it's doubtful that anyone you order one from will know the spacing or if it will fit your spacing. Inverting the existing thumb rest is the surest way to determine if a higher position will help you. If it does then you can purchase a t.r. that has a leather flap that will go over the t.r. and be held in place partially by your own thumb. If you elect to invert the t.r. yourself you must be careful with the screws. I don't understand why your music store can't help you.

Well if you're in Norway, and you seem to march with some sort of ensemble, there must be enough of a clarinetist population for them to have the need to offer those services....

Loree (the French oboe manufacturer) makes a "Dutch" thumb-rest for oboe and English Horn. It's silver plated, and beautifully made, with a hole on top for a neck-strap hook. It's very wide, and fits the thumb nicely. It is not adjustable, but can be installed in the existing holes, or a new spot if necessary. I've used them on all my clarinets for years. Call or contact Loree in Europe to have one sent to you, they cost about $75 US.

I use a Kooiman thumb rest. Kooiman has a web site, I'm sure Google can find it. You can find out from Kooiman how to get the rest. I recently made an extension for my music stand that permits me to rest the bell of my horn against a support. It is a very comfortable way to play.

I would difinitely try simon's suggestion. I did it and it has helped alot. Take a good look at how it is presentely attached and you will most likely see that by inverting it you will raise by a 1/2 inch.

I was able to find two versions of Loree thumbrest in Mark Chudnow Woodwind catalogue. (there wern't any pictures) One was labled "adjustable"
the other was labled "Dutch". They were each about $80.
