I use a Hite mouthpiece (made for John Moses) and v12#5's I think the reeds are the problem, but exactly where do you scrape to solve this problem? As a double reed player, we scrape the heart area to clear up any fuzzyness... but how about on clarinet reeds... I do the whole "polishing, wetting, drying out period...." but they still give me a buzz in the tone (note long B). My clarinet was just in the shop too.... now it has to go back for pinning... the carck is not all the way through, so I can't imagine that is the problem... Thanks All!

1.I read the reed book written by Charles Stier.I found no new things except that sometimes small scraping on the right hand upper surface works.He saids it compensates the rotation force by the right hand thumb supporting thumb hook.But I could not recognize.
2.Some people measures the thickness synmetry.But I think this is a little ridiculous since reed stiffness does not solely come from thickness.Its micro structure will have some effects on it.Therefore,I think it is wise to test right and left blowing tests which are detailed in Mr.Ridenour's article. http://home1.gte.net/klarinet/articles/

While your noise may well be from the reed, it could be from
other things you should consider. It is very possible to
get a sympathetic vibration from other parts of the clarinet
at certain pitches. The part might be from a vibrating
spring, or perhaps, as I had recently, a loose ring on the
bottom of the bell. You will need a second person to help
to test for this: have your helper hold various areas of the
clarinet as you play the offending "B" and see if the sound
can be stopped by the helper's hands stopping a vibration.
Secondly, it is very common to hear a noise on long B
when there is foreign material in the register tube. Clean
this out with a pipe cleaner. If these things don't help,
then go back to suspecting the reed. Do you have this noise
problem when you play a #4 1/2 reed?

No... I have the "noise" only when I use #5's. Everthing else if fine, except B... so I have to figure out where to scrape... Thanks for the advice, though!
