Mouthpieces in School Bands

Hello All!

I was at at local festival on Saturday watching the parade and I noticed in a lot of the marching bands the clarinet players all had the same kind of mouthpieces. Some looked like crystal mouthpieces with one in particular a kind of orange color.

I've been out of school since 1986 and I can never remember seeing entire clarinet sections with the same mouthpiece. Is this the norm these days?
Am I THAT old???

The mouthpieces were probably not "crystal" (ex: Pomarico, Vandoren, O'Brien) but rather a lucite type mouthpiece (ex: Pyne Poly crystal)

Having all clarinetists use the same type mouthpiece is as ridiculous as having then all wear the same size shoes.

Then again, it is marching band - where quality takes a back seat to quantity ...GBK
