I just started my new job while I'm in college, and I know you are all jealous!!
I go to the University of Maryland College Park, and I started my new job in the Performing Arts Library in the Special Collections room (SCPA). Does anyone know what is in the Special Collections room?!
The ICA collection!!
For all of you in the ICA that have ordered music lately to be shipped, I prolly shipped it. Ok, one of the many ppl that have probably shipped it.
It's really fun to see all the music that I could play one day. I'm like a kid in a candy store!
Heh, yeah maybe your job pays more, but I get to listen to music and play with old scores all day. haha
If there is something weird you are looking for, try looking in the ICA collection, we probably have it. You must be an ICA member or a student of any UM system school.

I may be working in my college's music library soon as well, but we don't have a special clarinet collection. :( We do, however, hold the complete published and many unpublished works of Peter Schiekele (aka PDQ Bach), Swarthmore class of something or other. Music libraries have the strangest things if you have time to wander...

I remember seeing a PDQ work ... 1712 overture (or something silly) ended with balloons being popped ... nearly died laughing.

PDQ Bach (Peter Schiekele) gave a "concert" in our town a few years ago which started out with Him running down the isle of the theators balcony, out of breath and a couple minutes late. After shouting somethng to the audience, He threw a rope over the railing, stepped over the rail, shimmied hand-over-hand down to the first floor, took a running leap onto the stage and--seemly quite out of breath--frantically began the concert. We never stopped laughing after that. What a guy!!
I also always enjoy hearing his NPR "Schiekele Mix" program broadcast weekly over local WERN-FM radio. A rare talent, certainly in league with the late (musical comic geneus) Victor Borge.

Many TKS, CG, I'm sure the ICA Collection has a concert band section also, Right?? I guess I've become our Tulsa Comm Band's "Finder" for hard-to- get score/sets after success with RosenKavalier [its tough!], Again TKS, Ken Kolb. Will see what our conductors would like in both jazz and classics for our "concert season", Several of our cl'ists and I are ICA members, Great Publication and Info!! Have Fun, Don

Congratulations! I'm an old UM grad (pre-Clarice Fisher days, for sure!) and although I wasn't a music major, my best friend was a Music Ed major and played that nice Selmer rosewood contra in Symphony Band --- is that your 'job' now too? Jus' wonderin'.......

oh! The rosewood contra is great, but alas, I have only gotten to play it once. :( My friend (who is now in his 6th year at UM) has taken over any contra part that exists, leaving me with alto or bass parts. It's a great horn, I can't say the same for the BBb contrabass.
But UM did buy 2 brand new Selmer low C bass clarinets, and to this day, I have been the only player of mine. :-D Then the Buffet Pretige low C bass was stolen last year! I hope someday I will be able to play the rosewood contra. We are having a clarinet recital this semester and a clarinet choir (we hope), so that could be my chance.
I'm playing clarinet and alto clarinet in Symphonic Wind Ensemble this semester. Go alto! lol
