 mouthpiece chipping

today i dropped my mouthpiece and it chipped near the tip of the mouthpiece, right about where the right corner of the reed is but a little off. its kind of hard to explain and im kicking myself right now for dropping it, although accidents happen. but my question is, is it still ok to use or do i need a new one? ive played through it and there doesnt seem to be a problem so if someone could tell me if there acctually is a problem that im not noticing i would really appriciate it.

Seems to me, Krawfish3x, if there were a problem you'd have noticed it by now. If the chip is rough enough to really bother you, you might try rubbing it out a bit with a piece of emery cloth or ask your local tech to give it a kiss with the buffing wheel.

Keep on tootin' :)

The chip could probably be repaired with "super glue" by a technician who knows how to do it.

If it soesn't seem to cause any difficulty, forget about it and keep practicing. On the other hand, a bug on the windshield is often a good excuse to buy a new car ($s being no object, of course).

If the chip causes any problems I or other competent refacers can repair it.

Some chips seem to affect playing, others may not, if you have the chip, if might be "glueable", likely with a bit of careful refacing. It prob. will be a "psychological" [sp?] inferiority, tho, so you may have the ?opportunity? to do a bit of mp hunting! I've "repaired" a few, but prefer the untouched character, as with my B C glass-crystals, you may only drop them ONCE !! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I don't think super glue is an option. An epoxy filler might be more appropriate. The question is always "is it worth enough to fix?".

Mark: I have used super glue successfully on chipped mouthpieces. I guess it depends on how large the chip is and exactly where it is located.

its not acctually a chip that i can glue, it was more of "a big scrape".

I had a tiny chip in a Van Doren M13. I sent it to David Spiegelthal for repair. Not only did he repair it, but he did a little refacing, and now it is my favorite among all my mouthpieces. Thanks again David. Plus his prices are very reasonable.

I wouldn't put super glue or epoxy in my mouth. Is there a dentist who reads these postings and can comment on these or other materials?
