Can anyone tell me the difference in these clarinets as far a being good for dixieland jazz/swing music? You jazz clarinetists, of all models in the Yamaha line, which do you prefer ?
PS: Already own a Leblanc LL and Selmer 9, which I love.

Your Selmer Series 9 should be perfect - what's wrong with using that? The Pete Fountain Leblanc(?) is also highly regarded amongst jazz clarinetists.

Diz- I think he was asking just for knowledge. Maybe he wanted a Yamaha and only plays jazz so wanted to know which he should get or something. In any case I don't think his question had anything to do with the obviously jazz inclined Series 9.

That's correct.......my interest was for information only. I am very happy with the bigger straight bore LL and Series 9. Just wondered what Yamaha model might appeal to jazz clarinetists.......if any ?

I use a Yamaha Oehler for jazz and it is great. Lots of projection especially top end. I settled on the lesser 457 model as the bore was a little bigger than the 600 and 800's. It may be the same for the Boehm's. Although any clarinet may work some of the upper models really are designed for orchestral use and the tone is a little thick and they don't respomd to bending. I have tried SEV's and found them to be a little tight, another option is the CX or AE which are designed for more commercial playing.

My vote is for the YCL-72
The AE/CSv/SEv models are all hand tuned, so they may be easier to handle
their just awfully expensive by comparison.
I would think something like an Uebel in proper repair would swing.
That, and a Boosey Emperor or Imperial might be nice, too.
