I currently play a B40 b flat mp and am wondering what your thoughts are on the bass and e flat versions of this mp.

Can't speak for the eefer, but I have yet to play a Vandoren bass clarinet mouthpiece I really like (although I've tried some B45s and even B46s that weren't too bad). As I recall the one B40 I tried years ago was too close for my taste on bass clarinet.

David,

What was the tip opening in mm? What tip opening and facing length do you prefer?

I go along with D S's mp assessment. I didn't much like the BC B45, felt the Sel C* was better, but my Pomarico 3 [glass] and [his refaced] Pom 1 are my favorites. Very little eefer experience, have a Couf [2 or 3?] which I have used satisfactorily. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

DAVE,
My suggestion would be: Don't get wrapped up in the numbers game. Every single mouthpiece plays differently, even two that have the same listed facing length and tip opening. Get as many mouthpieces as you can and try them --- the numbers are only a rough guide.

I used to use a B40 on my Noblet Eb and prefered it to the other Vandorens or the stock mouthpiece which came with the instrument. It left me with a few intonation and projection problems with the throat notes. I found all of the Selmer Eb pieces I tried preferable. However, all of them seem really inconsistant from one nominally identical piece to another so all you can do is try a few and see what you like.
