 Altissimo Register

This is just a bit of useful information that i thought people who dont know should know:

To change notes you either have to speed up the vibrations or lessen the
vibrations.

The register key on the clarinet raises the register of the clarinet from the chalumeau to the clarion register by raising the note a 12th.( example: F to C is a 12th)

To get into the Altissimo register you accually are creating a new "register key" or rather "register vent" by lifting up your first finger on your left hand. This raises the note in the clarion register by a 6th putting it into the altissimo register. (example: E to C# is a 6th) As you go up the altissimo register you'll see that your fingers are doing a chromatic scale in the clarion register except with the first finger open. u'll eventually reach a dead end when you get to F#(although G can be played by using a Bb fingering without the first finger).

After the F# the rest of the notes are played through overblowing and overtones.

This was just a piece of information that i found interesting and thought should be shared. if anyone has any comments feel free to post.

My favourite thing I say to people when they ask the difference between a clarinet and a saxophone is 'The saxophone overblows an octave and the clarinet overblows a twelth above the fundametal' they look at me confused mumbling the word fundamental, they then ask me to expalin, I just say I have'nt got the foggiest idea(I have) I then DO explain it to them.
