I am about to change my set-up and one of the makers at the top of my 'shopping list' is Luis Rossi. I have never seen or played a Rossi instrument, but I am intrigued by the prospect of a one-piece clarinet. My interest in Rossi clarinets is due to the fact that he makes an English bore model and this may be an option in replacing my eageing 1010's. I would love to hear the views/opinions of anyone who has experience of playing Rossi clarinets/mouthpieces. Many thanks.

I have not played one, but have played in a group with someone who did and it sounded excellent. I'm not sure whether that was the wide bore version though.
There are at least two recordings of a good player using the wide bore version, but I doubt they are on general release. They are performed by Anthony Michaelson, a British player who owns a leading Hi-Fi manufacturer called Musical Fidelity. If you managed to find their number through international phone enquiries then I would think he may well be willing to share his impressions with you and perhaps let you know how to get his recordings. I feel sure MF has a web site, which may have an Email address; a round about way of dealing with the clarinet issue.
If you are not British yourself there is a chance you have not heard of Peter Eaton, a small maker in the UK who has continued to supply 1010 bore instruments of good reputation (only they play in tune alledgedly, which 1010s did not). He has a web site which gives a good deal of detail, and that may be an alternative route of enquiry.

I am the proud owner of two Rossi's (Bb and A). I use a Charles Bay wooden mouthpiece. I used to play the usual R13, etc.
I am simply delighted with my instruments. More importantly, my audience loves the dark sound of these lovely clarinets.
Intonation, response, tone quality are superb. They are flexible and versatile instruments.
Jonathan Cohler has a CD "The clarinet alone" where he uses a Rossi. As a matter of fact, Jonathan is a Rossi Artist (from a marketing point of view) and can tell you everything about the instrument.
At Osteend last Summer, Rossi's clarinets were called the "Stradivarius of the clarinet". They have this uniqueness and excellence.

To Graham and Mario, Thank you for your replies; you have both given me food for thought and new lines of enquiry. By the way Graham, I am English and though I have not as yet tried Peter Eaton clarinets, I am aware of them. In fact I use a PE mouthpiece on occasion and it is superb. So I guess Peter Eaton is also on my 'shopping list'. Thanks again to you both.
