 Valuation of old Conn Clarinet
Author: tstelter

I have a Conn Albert System Metal Clarinet, #889 (1895 I believe), that I need to get a value on. I had the instrument serviced by a local shop and they did a great job on it, except the 8va key is broken(they did not have a part suitable to fix it) and they did not remove the mouthpiece to replace the tenon. The instrument is in great shape with little wear (brass showing) on the finger holes, etc. Any information from the old timers (or anyone else in the know) about this classic would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks, Tom

I haven't followed current valuations but 3-4 years ago I saw several of these go for $600-700 on eBay. They were in need of overhauls. Is it low pitch or high pitch?

One just never knows who wants what you have until you list it. Is 8va another name for "register key"? If yes, is it specific to Albert system?

Actually, it should be called a 12va key, if that's such a word . . . hehe

I have three alberts, Tom, all playable after I repadded 'em.
I bought them from eBay sellers a couple years ago after Dee very kindly and patiently steered me in that direction.
This may give you some idea: I think they were in the 'under $150(USD)' range. I don't remember exactly but seventy dollars comes to mind for the slightly bent, otherwise okay, G. Valette. They're not "Name" brands, like your Conn, but they play all right - great for outdoor use. They're all standard pitch of course.
I saw those 6-7(or more) hundred dollar ones Mark mentions. They were way outta my price range.
If your Conn is a double wall model, it's more than likely a HP instrument :(
Very desireable collector pieces that often sell for big bucks but you're very limited to who you can play them with.

Here are some pictures for those that asked. Thanks for the feedback. I believe it is a double wall, high pitched instrument.

Seems the pics didnt come through. I wil try one more time.

Nice old Conn double wall, I'm sure there are some techs out there who could make a register key to fit this.
