Buffet makes E11 model clarinets in A, Bb, C and Eb. good playing clarinets for he money, and I believe they are the modern version of the Evette Shaeffer.

William,
The E11 is the modern version of the Evette, not the Evette & Schaeffer. The A, Eb and C versions of this line are recent additions, not carryovers of the original line. I have an old Buffet brochure that shows E&S sets of Bb and A so there were at least a few A's made. I also seem to recall seeing an E&S C on eBay a year or two ago -- though it may have originally been a special order or a factory second. There may have been a few eefers but I've never seen one and it is not listed in the brochure.
Why are they so rare? Just a guess. I suspect there wasn't much demand for intermediate A and Eb clarinets during the period the E&S model was produced (i.e., prior to 1980). I suspect that very few amateurs purchased A or Eb clarinets in those days and the ones who did usually were well enough off to afford the extra $100 - $200 a pro model would have cost.
Best regards,
jnk
