 barrel

I'm trying out an interesting barrel.
It's marked "Inter-change-a-bore" and comes from Yamaha in the U.S. though I believe it's not made by them. I can't obtain one here in the U.K.

The idea is that the body of the thing (in Brass) has a slight taper but its made to screw in to the tenon joints (plastic) so you can have it either way round.
I can't detect much difference with inverting the taper, but do find it good to play on generally and wonder if that's simply because of the weight of the material.
What effect do you think the interchangability thing should have?
Has anyone seen/tried one of these?
Does anyone make barrels in different materials (glass/metal)?
What do you think?

Perhaps you can contact him and ask these questions directly. I do not have personal knoweledge of the barrel, just have read about it.

I played one maybe 5 or 6 years back and was less than impressed. To me it didn't seem to offer anything on either my 10G or my son's Festival - the stock barrels felt & sounded better. The few we tried (we were at the Yamaha assembly factoiry in Grand Rapids) didn't fit either the Seler or Buffet properly, either - the barrel was loose on both horns.

I thought they had fallen off the face of the earth since then. Good idea in principle, didn't seem to work in practice. Perhaps they've improved since then.

I have seen a crystal barrel and a poly crystal. I can't tell you much more but they do exist.
