I will major in music, but am not sure if it will be in teaching or performance. Which did you choose? Do you have a preference if you have done both? What can I expect? Should I shoot for a band or orchestra? Thanks!

If you major in Music Education, you will perform and study privately.
If you major in Performance, you will perform and study privately.
My point: Having a BME helps tremendously down the line if you plan to go to graduate school and apply for a teaching assistantship. I did my undergrad in Education and my Masters in Performance. My education background helped me to organize and run classes as a teaching assistant.
My other point: Having a BA in performance will help you become a better musician... but no guarantee of a job. How many orchestral performers do you know who do not studio teach to supplement their income? So, you will probably end up teaching in some way in the end. You might as well have that education experience.
If you really want to excel at both, then it is up to you to be aggressive with forming chamber groups, preparing for auditions (band and orchestra), maybe forming your own private studio while at school, and keeping up your practicing. I always say, "Never close any doors. Go for it all!"

I think that Kristin makes a good point. Even as an education major, no one is stopping you from practicing. You can earn a more useful degree while seeing just how far things go on your horn.
If you get your BME you could end up teaching almost anything, but band would be more up your alley. Remember that if you teach orchestra, it will be strings-only in a lot of districts.
Also don't forget that you could teach general music in the elementary schools. I know a number of fine players who do this. Instead of being tied up at Friday night football games, you could be giving programs on weeknight PTA meetings.

I will be majoring in music this fall at college.
I think I have the same problem as you having to choose between Music Teacher Education and Music Performance.
If I were you, I'm planning to do a double major in both.
If you're not the type to perform in an orchestra/band/or ensemble, I think its best that you go into teaching.
You can earn a lot of money teaching wind instruments, because from my understanding, I think there are very rare wind teachers out there while most people who teach usually teach violin or piano.
